Home success against the Stars

It was a triumphant Sunday for Whitley Bay Ice Hockey Club Junior Development, as both our under 16 Tomahawks and under 18 Braves took on the Billingham Stars at home. Last time the teams faced each other on the away leg, Whitley came out on top with the bragging rights.

On Sunday it was no different as we seen some quality ice hockey from both sides, with Whitley Bay showing slightly more passion for the game, which resulted in a win for both the Tomahawks and the Braves.

The Tomahawks beat their rivals 9 – 1, which helped push them into fourth place in the under 16 north division 1 league of the English Ice Hockey Association. Spirit of the game for Whitley Bay went to number 27 Jamie Ord who showed real determination during the game.

Later that afternoon, the under 18 Braves also beat the stars 5 – 2 in what was a fierce and tough game. Tomahawks Netminder Jessica Kinghorn continued to battle between the pipes for the Braves, as starting net minder Josh Ion is out injured. The result helped to push the Braves into sixth spot in the standings.

The club also received the news over the weekend that the Braves players Kaitlyn Butterfield and Casey Traill have been selected to join the under 18 Woman’s GB squad in the Division 1 qualification tournament which runs between  19th & 25th January 2015 with team GB facing hosts Poland, as well as China, Denmark, Italy and Kazakhstan.
