Whitley Arrows Vs. Solihull Barrons

Only the second home game of the season saw a roster of 20 players take on Solihull who started above Whitley in the league table.  Some early pressure from Whitley and some skillful play by Luke Royle let in Thomas Fraser who slotted into the top corner for a 1 – 0 lead after 3 minutes.  A speculative effort by Fraser was rewarded by another goal after 6 minutes.  Whitley’s high intensity hockey kept the pressure on the visitors with chances created throughout the first period. Phillip Curry made it 3 – 0 after some persistence in front of goal, slotting under the net minder.

The second period started with a fantastic team goal finished off by Joe Walls, Whitley’s first line really showing their strength and speed.  Fraser grabbed his hat-trick with fast reactions in front of net. Curry rounded three defenders to slot under the keeper for a convincing 6 – 0 lead. This forced Solihull into a change of net minders but the replacement was frozen by the skill of Jay Lucas who netted a great break out goal.  The sizable crowd was being treated to some highly entertaining hockey.  Callum Taylor grabbed a much deserved brace after working hard all game.

The third period started with a slightly slower tempo, yet still resulted in three early goals from Lucas, Taylor and Fraser.  The Whitley strength in attacking options really showing and the Barrons were struggling to compete.  The Arrows allowed some game time for the newer team members and Matthew Betham showed a cool head to round the keeper for his first home goal.

A rare Solihull chance was saved well by Daniel Crowe who kept his concentration well in what was becoming a one sided game.  The game was finished off with a Taylor and Fraser goal apiece and Luke Mitcheson rounding off a 17 – 0 victory in the last minute.  Great progress from the whole squad.
