Billingham Double Header Win

Whitley Bay’s new season started in style last weekend as both the under 16 Tomahawks and the under 18 Braves took on their double header games down at Billingham on Saturday. Both teams took on the Billingham Stars and managed to come out on top in this local derby game.

Having finished 6th last season, The 6 – 1 win over Billingham has put the Tomahawks in a good opening position for the start of the new season. The team has bonded well over the summer, and team coach Troy Butterfield has done a great job in getting the lads and lasses ready for this season.

For the Whitley Braves, winning this key game at the start of the season is just what they needed having narrowly missed out last season by finishing in 2nd Place. An 11 – 5 score line demonstrates the passion displayed by both teams.

Head Coach Terry Matthews said “Our first two games of the season were both local derby games, which made them very difficult due to all the passion involved by both teams. I’m really happy with the results and especially how the new teams have bonded together over the summer”

The new season continues next weekend when the Braves take on Hull on Sunday 21st September at Hillheads. The puck drops at 5:00pm with free entry to the public.
