It was a scoreless 1st period with whitley only having 6 shots on goal whilst Matthew Johnson turned away 10 shots with some key saves to keep Widnes off the scoresheet.
Whitley ran into some penalty trouble with Widnes scored 1st goal on the powerplay and then an even handed goal soon after. Whitley pulled one back with Jack Williams assisting Max Torre and then 2 mind later James Toby got the equaliser. 2nd ended even both scoreline and 12 shots on target.
With all to play for, Widnes got 2 quick goals in the 1st minute of the 3rd period which stunned whitley however James Toby got his 2nd of the game to reduce the deficit to 1 goal. Widnes got their 5th goal to restore their 2 goal advantage.
Whitley had many chances to reduce the deficit and did so with Max Torre grabbing his 2nd goal of the night resulting in a 5-4 scoreline with plenty of time to get an equaliser.
Penalty trouble for whitley restricted them to push for that equaliser however last throw of the dice was to pull Matthew Johnson for an extra skater but on 59minutes Widnes got an empty net goal to take the win 6-4.
